Flowers under the water

Description

These flowers are not botanical specimens but signs of emergence. Their elongated stems and flame-like heads rise from a richly textured ground that looks equally like soil, reef, and dissolved pigment. The composition oscillates between the floral and the marine, demonstrating the artist’s recurring ability to let one visual category bleed into another. Because the blossoms appear both delicate and incendiary, the work treats growth as an energetic and precarious event.

History

I did not want these flowers to look calm or decorative. I wanted them to feel as if they were burning their way upward — tender, stubborn, and slightly wild, like the forms that survive in spite of the world around them.
